JOBS IN FINANCE - TRUST

Thanks to the relatively attractive tax climate for entrepreneurs, the Netherlands is an interesting country for foreign companies. As a result, the Dutch trust sector is fairly large. However, few finance professionals are aware of what the sector has to offer.

As experts in the placement of finance professionals, it is our job to see opportunities on the financial job market and share them. The trust sector can be a great career opportunity for qualified (financial or legal) specialists.

What is a trust office?

A trust office is an office that deals with the management of companies. The trust office is often responsible for the administration and management of the target company.

Europe is the most important region for trust offices; 57 percent of the offices are located in Europe, 18 percent in the United States, followed by Asia/Pacific with 12 percent. All together, trust offices serve more than 16,000 international clients, mainly internationally operating companies.

At present, there are approximately one hundred and sixty trust offices registered in the register that De Nederlandsche Bank keeps on the basis of the Supervisory Act. In total, there are approximately 3,500 people working in the trust industry, of whom nearly eighty percent are trained or higher. Together they serve more than twenty thousand clients, also known as target companies in the trust industry. Examples of these trust organizations in the Netherlands are: Vistra, Intertrust, Trustmoore and Equiom.

This large number of companies naturally also provides a lot of work for accountants, lawyers, banks, tax advisors and notaries.

Legal and Finance professionals within trust

In the trust sector, there is a high demand for finance and legal professionals. More and more candidates working in the law and notary field are moving to a legal position within the trust sector, especially the so-called "big 8 accountants" are making the transition.

Legal professionals within trusts are mainly engaged in corporate law. Knowledge of international contract law is a must. Among other things, maintaining international contacts and connecting with stakeholders at board level are seen as important substantive challenges for start-up trust professionals.

For finance professionals, working in the trust sector means being able to carry out administrations at holding level. The knowledge and experience that you need to have as a financial account manager to be able to do your job well is sound knowledge of accounting, good experience with nl/us gaap, and international ifrs experience.
