Our client
Our client is a large international hospitality group with properties in Asia Pacific, Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the USA. For their office in Amsterdam, they’re looking for an Accountant & Internal Control Specialist

Scope
Dual role, manage finance for the Netherlands with outsourced accounting and tax service provider and conduct internal control tasks for their European operation. In this role you will report to the Senior Finance Manager, Netherlands and Control & Assurance, Europe.

Responsibilities
Control & Assurance, Europe
  • Conducts audits of property operations and cluster centralized activities in accordance with the annual internal control plan and specific requests from stakeholders, which encompass conducting in-depth reviews of financial statement, operational processes and controls to identify areas of improvement for selected scope each year
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of internal controls and compliance with group policies, procedures, accounting principles, industry and local regulations
  • Collaborates with Group Internal Audit, Control & Assurance and Europe management and staff to implement audit recommendations and monitors progress
  • Prepare detailed audit reports outlining findings, recommendations and action plans for management reviews
  • Assists in defining and implementing yearly internal control programs and procedures to address identified risks and ensure thorough coverage
  • Assists in updating operational and finance Policies and Procedures to keep abreast with the regulatory, legal changes and practical challenges and to identify ways of streamlining for efficiency
  • Identify training needs to ensure compliance of P&Ps and conduct trainings
  • Assist in preparing periodic reports to Management and carrying out ad hoc projects assigned
  • Supports the operational teams in awareness, preparation of internal audits follow up action plans after audits
Finance, Netherlands
  • Manages outsourced accounting and tax service providers in all financial, tax and regulatory matters
  • Prepares and reviews month end accounts for Dutch based companies within the group (including intercompany, loans, interest, prepayment and accruals)
  • Assists in completion of balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules of financial statements on a monthly basis
  • Resolves accounting discrepancies and irregularities and ensures that respective stakeholders are informed immediately of any variances or discrepancies
  • Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end closing processes to the required standards
  • Assists to prepare annual budget, analysing and forecasting on monthly basis
  • Assists in variance analysis of actual versus budget on a monthly basis
  • Assists in preparation of monthly or quarterly VAT returns and yearly CIT returns in coordination with engaged tax consultants
  • Reviews the companies’ bank statements ensuring all payments and receipts are allocated in a timely manner
  • Responsible for the accurate preparation of payment runs
  • Assists in ad-hoc tasks where required
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Audit, or related field
  • Experience in audit firm or internal audit/internal control role in listed companies
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English
  • Advanced MS Excel, World and PowerPoint
  • Regular Travel to 50% of the time
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal with internal and external contacts
  • The ability to work under pressure and be able to stick to strict deadlines
  • Organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise
  • Proficient numerical, administrative and IT skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of team
  • Proactive problem solving skills
Nice to haves
  • Background in hospitality or real estate (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion Cloud accounting software (desirable)
  • Knowledge of hotel property management systems (desirable)
